We’ll be having our long-anticipated asphalt and concrete work done soon in Solaridge. The work will consist of concrete repair to a section of curb apron at the entrance to the pipestem, and a complete topcap of the Drive and Court.
The contractor will be in the cluster working for three or four days, depending on weather, and during much of that time our roads will be closed. Parking will be along Twin Branches. Please be sure to park safely out there, and stay well away from the corners and various cluster entrances!
When we receive a firm schedule from the contractor, I’ll distribute a bulletin, in September or early October. We are requiring a minimum twenty-four hours notice, and hopefully we’ll have more than that – but weather sometimes forces abrupt changes to asphalt schedules. Be prepared to move your vehicles if you’ll need them!
The history: Four
years ago we had street work done.
Well, we’ve stretched to four years, but now we must move or risk damage to our streets. The Board has voted to expend the funds in reserves to do the street repairs (and cluster sign replacement) and to borrow the expected shortfall amount.
The commercial bank loan will be repaid from a portion of the revenue stream which would ordinarily go to reserves over three years, and we will avoid the necessity of a special assessment on the homeowners to fund the amount. The Board felt that a special assessment should be avoided if possible, due to the impact on homeowners and the great amount of work it would generate for our cluster Treasurer in implementing it.
We’re implementing best engineering practices as taught at
Reston Association seminars, and recommended by the engineering consultants who
guided us through our last asphalt work.
Large cracks will be covered with synthetic fabrics, and smaller cracks
will be hot-sealed, prior to repaving.
Sides will be milled to a 2” depth and the milling tapered a full 6’
into the street. The mix, a high-grade
The contractor has agreed to repave individual driveways at a reasonable charge, to be negotiated with any homeowner who wants the work done. I’ll provide details in the next bulletin. The charge should be substantially less than contracting for just one or two driveways alone.
Thanks for your patience during the upcoming repairs. Hope for dry, hot weather in September – our August date for repaving fell through due to the rain earlier this summer. And get out your camera, the cluster will soon have beautiful roads once again!

P.S. My best guess about when the work will commence? Mid to late September is my best guess today. Of course, that’s really a guess, because if it rains too much, or if another job cancels, or if…
