Happy Halloween! The ghosts and goblins will be out soon. Are you ready for them? My "trick or treat" visitors have numbered from a low of 3 to a high of 30 in recent years, so I guess I should buy 40 treats to be safe? Hmmm, what to do with the extras?!

With the change in time, night comes suddenly early to our neighborhood. That makes our outdoor pole light especially important. A street lined with the twinkling glow of front yard lights looks cheerful and welcoming, like an olde time street scene in a painting.

Please switch on your front pole lamp every evening, even when you're traveling. Consider installing a timer or photocell to do the task for you. Help make Solaridge Cluster an attractive, welcoming community!

The cluster has managed a good deal of tree work this year, with changes including trimming or removal of trees which were diseased or misplaced. Some of the original builder-placed trees had grown to the point that they were heavily shading the ground, killing vegetation, and contributing to substantial erosion problems. We'll do some more tree work next year.

A plea from some residents and the cluster board about vehicle parking! Please use the driveways and our parking setbacks for your parking. If you must park along the street temporarily, be sure not to park opposite another parked vehicle.

Our streets are narrow, and we must always have room for the safe movement of traffic, and for emergency vehicles. Please make sure your visitors understand, and particularly spread the word when a group of people is coming to a party or other function. Thanks!

Our asphalt continues to look pretty good. Do we repave the cluster next summer, or do we wait another year so that reserves build -- and the assessment is lower? The answer will probably lie in the winter weather. A severe winter, one with lots of moisture and many freeze/thaw cycles will force us to pave. And new asphalt would look great! Answers …in the spring.

Board meetings are the 2nd Monday of each month, at 7:30, in my living room. Everyone is always welcome to drop in, ask a question, tell a story, or just listen to us discussing cluster business. Call to verify that we haven't changed the date or time -- it was Tuesday night last year, but the Reston Bike Club's Tuesday night spin just became too important for your president to miss!

Again Happy Halloween, and a great Thanksgiving, too!
