Asphalt’s Down!
We’ve done it! Over five hundred tons of hot (325 degree) asphalt went down on our solar streets today. Everything was ready to roll at 9:30 AM, and six hours later it was all in place. What an incredibly complex project it has been!
It’s wonderful to see everything finally come together properly! We were aiming for last Friday afternoon, so Monday’s very good -- the crew was able to make up one of those two days which we lost to rain.
Our project engineer had invaluable advice -- ideas both for us and for the asphalt contractor. The contractor really knew his business, and was a great guy to work with as well. And after long discussions with five local banks, we got the loan we wanted on the terms we wanted, to cover the shortfall.
We have an absolutely top-rate paving job, and it now needs your special attention. Unlike the thick asphalt laid on main roads, the thinner layer on cluster streets can be damaged soon after laying. By cars initially -- then by trucks -- especially when starting, stopping, turning power boosted steering or cornering at speed.
Our streets will reopen late Thursday afternoon for car and light truck traffic. Until then, please don’t park your vehicle in any of the adjoining clusters. Since we were once overwhelmed with parking from a neighboring cluster, we’ve enforced our private parking rules aggressively, and our neighbors do this, too.
I’ll give the Postal Service the ok to deliver again on Thursday afternoon. Parcel deliveries will resume Friday, although FedEx may walk in daily with small items. Please delay any heavy deliveries until next Monday, October 9. Trash and recycling will resume Monday the 9th as well.
Thanks to all for your good will, understanding, and your encouragement to the board during this entire project. It is much appreciated!
