Spring Rain
A Continuing Publication in
Solaridge Cluster
April 15, 2007
Hello
Solar neighbors – happy Spring!
The annual meeting
was held Tuesday the 10th at Reston Library – and I extend a
thank you to the twenty-six homeowners representing sixteen properties who
attended and made the meeting a success. Your taking an evening to consider
the Solar neighborhood means a lot to the volunteers who serve on your
board.
Among other things,
we had a fine suggestion – endorsed by all present – that street parking be
limited to the side of the street without mailboxes, except where a parking
setback exists on the other side. That’s a fine idea, and allows room for
ambulances and fire equipment to come through the cluster – please spread
the word – hear ye, hear ye! And our hard-working postman will smile.
By the way, fire
trucks ordinarily don’t call for tow trucks when their path is blocked –
look carefully at those big front bumpers…
You’ll recall that a
homeowner suggested that we lighten the cluster palette, and as promised the
Board asked the members for advice on whether we should consider a
revision of the palette.
After lengthy and
colorful discussion the community vote was surprisingly decisive, with a
substantial majority of properties
(a 4:1 ratio) voting to maintain
the current palette -- no ambiguity there. And at a member’s
suggestion, if you weren’t at the meeting and still want to express an
opinion, you can call or wave me down on the street.
Another thing that
came up – please remember that you need to apply to Reston Association in
order to switch from one approved house color to another – they’re quick to
approve the change, except where it would result in two adjoining properties
being the same color, something they feel lessens the attractiveness of the
neighborhood. Also remember that RA lists specific brands and colors and
approves only those – they observe that when a different company mixes a
stain “to look just like” the specified color, it seldom does, especially
after a year or two of weathering.
By the way – the new
house numbers are fine – that textured ivory surface is actually a thin
paper-plastic film protecting the glossy front of the number, and can be
carefully peeled off once the number is mounted. It sure fooled me! I’ll
drop by with your numbers next weekend – or let me know if you want them
sooner.
…and the new
climbing wall is up in the tot lot, I encourage everyone to try it out –
everyone can take at least that first step off the ground, eh?
Thanks everybody,
Lynn
